Verdant Creates Waste Management Module for Multnomah County

Multnomah County’s Environmental Operations Database, created by Verdant Web Technologies (Verdant) currently contains modules for regulatory guidelines; asbestos and lead-based paint in County buildings; underground and aboveground storage tank inventories; drinking water test results; an inventory of county confined spaces; and stormwater/UIC facilities with maintenance information.

To further expand the capabilities of the database, Verdant designed a new Waste Management module, designed to track waste and recyclable materials generated by the County’s operations. This will allow the County to document the type, quantity, and disposal method of these materials with triggers to ensure documentation is completed appropriately. This informational recordkeeping tool will provide easy-to-access data which can be used for agency reporting required by state and federal laws, as well as options for internal tracking of waste minimization, volume of recycling, costs, etc.

The module allows for tracking of hazardous waste, recycled materials, universal wastes, and solid waste and compost, with options for future expansion. Waste manifests are flagged until a return manifest has been received and uploaded to the system. Waste hauler and disposal facility identifications are recorded, and there is a link to Safety Data Sheets. Implementation of this new module will encompass full County-wide operations, including facilities, bridges, and transportation shops to ensure thoroughness and consistency of documentation, as well as regulatory compliance.
